Vista x64 Server Execution Failed

As I wrote earlier, in My Continuing Story of 64-Bit Vista, I've been very happy with Vista x64.

After installation of SP1 though, there has been one nagging problem - the wireless notification in the systray didn't work. This is exclusively a problem with Vista x64 on service pack 1. It didn't happen on RTM and doesn't happen on any released version of Vista x32.

Every week or two, I troll the various Vista forums looking for solutions. Well, one appeared. I have no idea why this works, and I admit that I'm not 100% certain what possibly security holes this may open up, but this fixes the problem:

net localgroup "Administrators" "NT Authority\Local Service" /add

On my first guess - I doubt it adds any significant security risk. Add at your own risk, however!

Until next time...

As always, if there are items you would like me to talk about, please drop me a line and let me know!
